The definition of a disability under Social Security is different than other programs. Social Security pays only for a total disability. No benefits are payable for a partial disability or for short-term disability.

Social Security considers
you disabled if:

You cannot do work that you did before.
Your condition significantly limits your ability to do basic tasks such as lifting, standing, walking, sitting, and remembering.
You cannot adjust to other work because of your medical condition(s).
Your disability has lasted or is expected to last for at least 12 months (1 year) or to result in death.

If you are working in 2019 and your earning average more than $1,220 a month, Social Security does not generally consider you to be disabled.
